Singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, classically trained pianist.

Fifi Mondello’s life has been steeped in music, theatre and dance.  All of these influences come together to create a performer who is a fresh, new voice from a lost age, reminiscent of a bygone era, while rooted firmly in the present day.
Fifi cannot remember a time when she wasn’t performing.  She started dance lessons when she was just 3 years old, followed by piano lessons at the age of 5.  As a little girl, she would dance around the tables of the local coffee shop, singing along to the jukebox playing “It’s My Party And I’ll Cry If I Want To”, commencing formal vocal training in her teens.

Fifi has been singing live for more than three decades and regularly performs around Perth, where she is based.  Fifi is an accomplished jazz singer and her jazz trio, the Fifi Mondello Trio, has performed at and held residencies at a variety of venues and events.  The trio was also included as part of the line-up for the Perth International Jazz Festival 2015 and headlined the 2017 Harvey Harvest Festival.  In addition, Fifi is a member of the female vocal jazz trio, The Sweet Teas and sings in an acoustic guitar duo called Sugar & Spice.  Fifi also sings Italian language and Italian-American music, including in the aptly named Italycious duo.  Fifi is also on the roster of Sydney-based record label, "The A&R Department".

In 2011, Fifi released her debut album of original material, “It’s True” (available on iTunes).  Decadent, confessional and elemental, the tracks off the album were extremely well received and gained extensive airplay on radio stations all around Australia.  The highly popular title track was added to rotation on Sydney’s FBI 94.5FM (among many other stations) and climbed its way into the AirIt Great Southern Charts Top 10 for three consecutive weeks.  The record was also named in the Top 10 Tip Sheet of recommended albums released by PBS 106.7FM in Melbourne.  Fifi’s music videos have had multiple screenings on ABC’s “Rage” program and many other televisions shows.
Fifi studied Theatre at the University of Western Australia and has acted in many plays and musicals.  She regularly performs in live musical theatre versions of popular children’s television shows for companies including Showtime Attractions and The Entertainment Store.
Fifi wrote, produced, performed in and choreographed her cabaret show entitled “A Hard Man Is Good To Find”, which premiered as part of the 2014 FRINGE WORLD Festival in Perth.  The sell-out show attracted a 4 star review from The West Australian Newspaper, which stated that Fifi has a “beautiful, strong voice… [her] comfort level and ability to let the audience in…really endears Mondello to the crowd… The clever script, performed fabulously...and the great music made this a really entertaining show”.  The full review is available here:

Fifi also recently completed a jazz cabaret show called "Songs in the Key of Love" at His Majesty's Theatre, as part of FRINGE WORLD 2019.  Il Globo Newspaper said of her performance - "Garbo is an Italian term which encompasses the rare qualities of this multifaceted artist. Not derived from the Swedish actress of the last century, it instead refers to the combination in Fifi of good taste, good manners, competence, elegance and, naturally, a lot of talent".
Fifi continues to train in most styles of dance including ballet (which she also teaches), hip hop, jazz, tap, lyrical and contemporary and she performs as part of various dance groups at corporate and private functions and events.  She is also the founder and artistic director of Purple Poodle Productions, which produces music videos and live musical, theatrical and cabaret events.

New Promo Video

My talented friend, Karen Farmer, has put together a new promo video for me, using footage from my FRINGE WORLD show held earlier this year, "Songs in the Key of Love".

Thanks, Karen!

I've finally done something I've been meaning to do for a while - I've had a showreel put together!

And here it is...

Thanks to my uber talented friend and writer, director, filmmaker and editor extraordinaire, Karen Farmer, for putting it together.

All That Jazz

So, it's been a while since I posted but I have been busy doing all sorts of fun music-related stuff.  I've been going back to my roots and singing a lot of jazz lately, with my great little trio made up of Sarah Clare on double bass and Alex Borthwick on guitar.  I've also been working with some other great jazz musicians, such as Mark Shanahan and Danny Moss Jr, guitarist and double bassist respectively.  We've been playing at a lot of great venues, such as residencies at Clancy's in City Beach, The Naked Fig in Swanbourne and Gypsy Tapas House in Fremantle, among others.  I've added some of our live jazz recordings to the music player on this site.

I can also announce that my trio has been included in the programme for this year's Sunday@Subi season, which is a season of concerts at the Subiaco Arts Centre curated by the City of Subiaco, which runs from 21 June until 23 August.  I'll be performing on 23 August, with the first half of the show being the Fifi Mondello Trio and the second half being my other project, The Sweet Teas (www.thesweetteas.com.au).  I'm really looking forward to this show!  Check out the program and brochure below!

Wow! That Was Fun! FRINGE WORLD 2014

And so all good things must come to an end…. My season of "A Hard Man Is Good To Find" as part of FRINGE WORLD 2014 is over and I'm so sad!

What an amazing experience, I had so much fun!  After spending almost a year writing the script and putting together the music, I can't believe it's already over.  We had a near sell-out run and managed to attract a 4/5 star review from The West Australian Newspaper!!!  Check it out here:    http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/full-coverage/fringe-world-2014/a/21649952/sicilian-sings-of-dating-woes/.  So stoked, grateful and humbled!

Of course, I couldn't have done it without the help of some fantastic people.  My director, Karen Farmer; musical director, Luke Nixon; back-up babes, Heidi Lake and Cleo Papineau; guitarist, Aidan Gordon; drummer, Talya Valenti; double bassist, Sarah Clare and keyboard player, Matt Parker.  They are a group of immensely talented, lovely, funny, warm and fabulous people and I love them to bits.

I'm looking into opportunities to do the show again, so fingers crossed!

Here's a little pic of the cast outside the show venue - more pics coming soon!

Lots of love

Exciting News!

Hello lovely people!

So, yes.... I've been extremely quiet for a while now but fear not, I haven't been idle!

I've been working hard on something which I can't wait to tell you about in the next few weeks.  I can't say much yet but it combines three of the things I love most in the world - music, dance and drama!

I've spent most of the past few months locked in this room.... writing, planning, editing, rewriting, rewriting again, staring out the window... and eating a lot of chocolate (70% cocoa of course)!

Stay tuned... I can't wait to tell you about this new project!

Sending you lots of love and blessings!

TV Interview & A Month in Sicily...

Hello lovely people!

I'm back home after a glorious month in Sicily, visiting the family and the homeland.  Had such a wonderful time!  Every time I visit I'm struck by how captivatingly bittersweet Sicily is - beautiful, confronting, fascinating, tragic and joyful, all at the same time.  If you've never been, you must go.  I'm biased but I think it it one of the most spectacular places in the world.

Now back to the Australian winter...:-(  But it's nice to be home and nice to see dear friends and family here.

Anyhow, here is a link to an interview that I did with ABC TV before I left, which went to air while I was away. Thought you might like to have a little look...

WAMi Festival & Compilation!

The 2012 WAMi Festival is almost upon us!  The festival is an annual showcase and celebration of original Western Australian music in all its glorious guises.  This year's festival will run from 26 May until 2 June and there is a delicious array of events across all genres of music.

Each year as part of the festival, a compilation of tracks and music videos is released - called Kiss My WAMi - and I'm pretty chuffed to report that my song "It's True" - and the music video for the song - have both been selected for inclusion on the compilation!!  Check out the link below for the complete track listings.

I've also been invited to play a special show as part of the the festival's "Sunday Live" event.  It's on Sunday May 27 (I'm on at 1pm) and it's outdoors at the Perth Cultural Centre in Northbridge (next to the Art Gallery).  It's free, all-ages and, if you need more of an incentive to come along, there will be an outdoor market selling handmade goods, yummy food, children's wares and lots of other quirky, eclectic stuff!  It kicks off at 12pm and there will be 5 bands playing until 5pm.  Oh - and I'm super excited to report that I will be playing with a fabulous all-girl band!  Lots of ultra glam frocks and big hair....

Click on the link below for more details.  Would absolutely love to see you there.
